How to Break into a New Industry

I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on how to get into a new industry sector within the supply chain. I have recently left the armed forces but I am finding it impossible to get a new job in logistics outsde of the forces as I do not have '"the industry" experience. Many of the jobs which I have applied for claim to operate in a Lean environment (where employment of personnel from outside the industry is encouraged), but I am still hitting dead ends. Prior to leaving the forces I did various courses and diplomas such as purchasing, operations management, accounting, lean, project management, transport, etc.. all of which are based on manufacturing and service industries, but because most of my logistics career has been in the defence sector, I am deemed unemployble.

I would like some advice on how best to approach a new industry, and from those ex-service personnel who are having the same problems as m,e or who have been fortunate enough to get into a new industry.
